zhēngqì - work hard for something, resolve to improve

I chose this word because after working late last night, I discovered that my experiment had failed. I was getting a bit fed up that nothing I had done recently seemed to have worked. But rather than give up and go home, I decide to stay late again in an effort to get a significant chunk of work done. I have been rewarded partially in that, at the very least it seems I have managed to extract some DNA, but mainly in that I felt good about getting stuff done. Tomorrow I will see the DNA I've extracted can be used for what I want, and if it can, whether it shows what I want. If it doesn't I hope I won't lose my motivation.
